I have been getting lots of questions from Twitter and Facebook regarding the shipping of Diesel Exhaust Fluid. So, let's talk about this one for a quick minute; this post will be very short and to the point.
If we were to look at the Material Safety Data Sheet, MSDS, for Diesel Exhaust Fluid; we read the following under the Transportation Section for this product.
"DOT Classification" --->Not regulated.
"TDG Classification" --->Not regulated
"Mexico Classification" --->Not regulated.
"HCS Classification" --->Not regulated
So, what does this mean with regards to its Diesel Exhaust Fluid Placard? Simply, that the placard itself will show zeros because the product is classified as non-hazardous and it is not regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT).
So, those of you wanting to set up a distributorship or delivery business; you are good to go.

Now, keep in mind that this is regarding the placard of DEF, there are still procedures as to how to handle and store Diesel Exhaust Fluid. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the questions everyone.

‘Follow Friday’ (abbreviated to #FF) is the title given to a project on Twitter started by Micah Baldwin over a year ago now, to get new users introduced into social circles. Basically what happens is that Twitter users write posts (known as Tweets) on the Friday of each week including the names of other users that they recommend to follow. This list of recommendations is identified by each ‘tweet’ starting off with #FF (followed by the usernames).
Personally speaking I think the whole ‘Follow Friday’ concept is a great idea however I do have just a couple of issues with it:
- 1. The bigger the list of people you’re ‘following’ becomes, the more #FF posts/tweets you’ll need to write as each is limited to only 140 characters.
- 2. I always find myself in a bit of a dilemma not wanting to leave people out.
Social Media Guru Chris Brogan (Twitter username @chrisbrogan) who runs www.chrisbrogan.com made a suggestion recently which was rather than bombard Twitter with these #FF posts why not write a blog post with your recommendations and then post a single message on Twitter directing everyone to your blog?
Chris went on to say that there are 2 benefits to doing things this way:
- 1. It gives you more than 140 characters to talk about the people you recommend.
- 2. It cleans up Twitter so that you don’t watch a constant stream of @someoneawesome names rushing by you all day.
“Find the good people. Find people who matter to you. Share the locals. Use public Twitter lists (if the lists aren’t judgement-based, such as ‘smart people’). promote others.” ~ Chris Brogan
So with all that being said here’s my first #FF post here on the blog:

As you can see this new approach doesn’t put a stop to my dilemma of not wanting to leave anybody out but I do have to limit how many great people I recommend in each post.

Mexico is not required to introduce Diesel Exhaust Fluid into their fleet yet, like the US. If you have ever had the opportunity to fly into Mexico City, you can find a clear grey blanket of smog hovering over the great city. Large Corporations are taking this into effect and some have already started introducing the newer engines in various parts of Mexico to help alleviate the ongoing smog problem.
TransLiquid Technologies has the experience, and supply chain in place to supply diesel exhaust fluid into Mexico.

The Diesel Exhaust Blog goes live- read the latest article here.
What is DEF or Diesel Exhaust Fluid? –> Starting in 2010, Vehicles equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology will use Diesel Exhaust Fluid. So check with your local dealer or owner’s manual to verify. Diesel Exhaust Fluid is also called DEF, which boils down to a simple solution made up of purified water and 32.5% automotive-grade urea.
Urea in my vehicle? yes, in this case; Urea is being used as a carrying agent for ammonia, which is needed to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx), which in part is the emissions from our vehicles. Turning NOx into nitrogen, water and carbon dioxide (CO2). Simple and highly effective.
Are you looking for diesel exhaust fluid in Houston, Texas? We are to help you get set up with an array of fuel management systems and storage/dispensing systems for Diesel Exhaust Fluid.

Urea is the first significant consumable non-fuel fluid to be added to any car or truck in the history of the automotive industry. Some people prefer to use the term “Diesel Exhaust Fluid” (DEF) instead of “urea” due to its close association to malodorous bodily fluid. Urea is a colorless, odorless substance that is used to meet the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) vehicle exhaust regulations that will go into effect in January 2010. DEF in New Diesel Vehicles.
Vehicle and engine manufacturers have developed Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology, which uses DEF to convert noxious NOx into harmless nitrogen gas. While some vehicle manufacturers have committed to using the SCR technology, others will use Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technology. In EGR, a portion of the vehicle exhaust gas is recycled to the engine, minimizing the generation of NOx in the engine itself, allowing the vehicle to meet the Tier 2 standards. SCR technology has up to a five percent fuel economy advantage over EGR. The use of EGR also requires additional space for the recirculating pipes, potentially decreasing the available payload capacity. Industry projections on SCR acceptance vary, indicating that between 50 percent and 75 percent of all diesel vehicles will use SCR technology.
